Winter Veil's Carol Contest 2005

Post by Ringo Flinthammer » 14 Dec 2005 05:28 pm

Post your song parodies here by December 23. On December 24, we vote, and the winner gets 5 shiny gold pieces (sorry, they're not chocolate).

Good luck!

Parody doesn't seem quite the right word, but here we go anyway.

The good king of the dwarves looked out
On the feast of winter
When the snow lay round about
So cold the trees did splinter
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor gnome came in sight
Bearing rocket fuel

“Hither dwarf and stand by me
If thou knowest, telling
Yonder gnomette who is she
Where and what her dwelling?”
“Sire she works a league from here
Where the troggs are now fought
Near the dwarves who brew fine beer
By the dam of Stonewrought”

“Bring me boar and bring me ale
Bring wood and tinder hither
You and I shall see her dine
When we bear her thither.”
Dwarf and monarch forth they went
To Northgate pass together
Through the rude winds wild lament
And the bitter weather.

"Sire, the night is darker now
And the wind blows stronger
Fails my ram, I know not how,
She can go no longer."
"Mark my footsteps, my good dwarf
Tread thou in them boldly
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
Freeze thy blood less coldly."

In the monarch’s steps he trod
Where the snow lay dinted
Heat was in the very sod
Which the Thane had printed
Therefore, dwarves and gnomes, be sure
Wealth or rank possessing
Ye who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing.
I'm not cute, I'm just drawn that way.

Translated from the original gnomish:

I saw three blimps come sailing in,
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil;
I saw three blimps come sailing in,
On winter’s veil in the morning.

And what was in those dirigibles three,
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil?
And what was in those dirigibles three,
On winter’s veil in the morning?

Eonar and Norgannon were there,
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil;
Eonar and Norgannon were there,
On winter’s veil in the morning.

Wither sailed those zeppelins three,
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil;
Wither sailed those zeppelins three,
On winter’s veil in the morning?

They sailed on into Gnomeregan,
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil;
They sailed on into Gnomeregan,
On winter’s veil in the morning.

The gnomish claxons all shall sound.
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil;
The gnomish claxons all shall sound,
On winter’s veil in the morning.

And all invading Troggs shall flee,
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil;
And all invading Troggs shall flee,
On winter’s veil in the morning.

And all the leper gnomes be cured,
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil;
And all the leper gnomes be cured,
On winter’s veil in the morning.

Let all the gnomes rejoice again,
On winter’s veil, on winter’s veil;
Let all the gnomes rejoice again,
On winter’s veil in the morning.
All Gnomes are a pet class, we just refer to it as "Grouping".

I come from a family of nomads in real life (Army brat turned government brat, and my relatives are hundreds to thousands of miles away), and as a result, "I'll Be Home for Christmas" has always meant a lot to me, personally:

I'll march home for the feast.
You can count on me.
Please have ale and roasted boar,
A new gun 'neath the tree.

Winter's Veil will find me
Where the oak keg gleams.
I'll march home for the feast,
If only in my dreams.

I'll march home for the feast.
You can count on me.
Please have ale and roasted boar,
A new gun 'neath the tree.

Winter's Veil will find me
Where the oak keg gleams.
I'll march home for the feast,
If only in my dreams.

I'll march home for the feast,
If only in my dreams ...
